Do You Have Pentair GloBrite Lights? Here's How to Tell

You have a small color light in your pool, spa, or tanning ledge, it just died or started acting up, and every replacement page asks the same question: is it a Pentair GloBrite? The light itself rarely says. Here is how to identify a GloBrite in a couple of minutes using the face size, the back of the body, the color behavior, and the part number, plus what to know if you are replacing one with our upgraded GloBrite replacement.

What a GloBrite Is

The GloBrite is Pentair's compact 12VAC LED light, sold since the early 2010s for pools, spas, tanning ledges, and water features. Unlike the big 10 inch fixtures with a screw ring around the face, the GloBrite is a small sealed puck on a cable. There is no bulb to change, the whole light is the unit, and it locks into its own proprietary GloBrite niche in the wall. Most pools built with them have several, all wired to a 12 volt transformer.

If your light is large, roughly the size of a dinner plate with a metal face ring, you are looking at an Amerlite, IntelliBrite, or similar 10 inch fixture, not a GloBrite. If it is small, keep reading.

Check 1: Measure the Face

Put a tape measure across the lens. The visible face of a GloBrite comes in right around 2 1/4 inches across. That small face is the fastest single tell, because Pentair's other lights are either much larger or shaped differently.

Check 2: Look at the Back of the Body

Pull the light forward out of the niche. A GloBrite body is a smooth plastic shell that tapers behind the face, with quad lock tabs and a gasket where it seats into the niche. That quad lock and gasket arrangement is the GloBrite fastening system, and it is how the light twists in and holds against the wall. If you see those tabs and that gasket, you have a GloBrite or one of its direct siblings.

The quad lock tabs and gasket are the giveaway. They are what lock the light into the GloBrite niche.

Check 3: Watch the Colors

Power the light and cycle the switch. A GloBrite runs the standard Pentair 12 color program: fixed colors plus color shows, advancing one step each time power is interrupted. If the light is tied to Pentair automation such as IntelliCenter, IntelliTouch, or EasyTouch, the controller picks colors and shows by name. If it only ever burns one color of white, you may have the white GloBrite version, so the other checks still apply.

Check 4: Find the Part Number

The surest confirmation is the number on the box, the receipt, or your builder's equipment list. GloBrite lights carry these Pentair part numbers:

Our Replacement Keeps Everything Pentair Standard

Once you have confirmed a GloBrite, the good news is that you do not have to touch the niche, the wiring, or the way you control your lights. Our GloBrite replacement was designed around the same Pentair standards the original uses:

Same quad lock and gasket. The replacement uses the standard Pentair quad lock fastening with gasket, so it twists into your existing GloBrite niche exactly like the original. The installation tool is included.

Anti-glare lens, an upgrade over OEM. The original GloBrite lens throws a harsh hot spot straight at whoever is across the pool. Our anti-glare diffuser lens spreads the output into an even glow that is easier on the eyes at night.

More brightness. High output LED electronics with True RGBW color mixing for an accurate white, brighter than the 15W original at lower power draw, with a 30W High Output RGBW option when you want maximum punch from each niche.

A housing that cannot take on water. The body is completely resin filled with no air inside, rated IP68, so the pressure cycle that cracks hollow GloBrite shells has nothing to work on.

Why Does Our Light Have Threads When the Original Does Not?

Customers spot this right away: our body has a threaded section, the original GloBrite does not. That is not a fitment problem, it is a feature. We include the threads for customers who install into standard 1.5 inch threaded fittings, which is a common setup on fountains, water features, and pools that were not built with the GloBrite niche.

In a GloBrite niche installation, the threads are not used in your install at all. They simply fit inside the pipe, and once the light is installed they are not visible. When you have the normal GloBrite fitting, the standard quad lock with its gasket is what secures the light against the wall, exactly like the original. The threads only do their job when you do not have a GloBrite niche and are threading the light into a standard 1.5 inch fitting instead. One light, both installations, and the finished look at the wall is the same either way.
