Jandy style 1.5 inch LED replacement installed in a Hayward ColorLogic 320 fitting

If your original Hayward ColorLogic or CrystaLogic 1.5 inch nicheless light has failed, our Jandy WaterColors 1.5 inch LED replacement can take its place. It goes into the same Hayward wall fitting with one small modification and one controller setting, and once installed it is as bright as the original ColorLogic. This guide walks through the whole swap using a ColorLogic 320 as the example.

Which Hayward lights this covers

This applies to Hayward's 1.5 inch nicheless lights: the ColorLogic color lights and the CrystaLogic white lights. They share the same body and mount into the same wall fittings. Common part numbers include:

ColorLogic 320 color: LACUS11030, LACUS11050, LACUS11100, LACUS11150, W3LACUS11030, W3LACUS11050, W3LACUS11100, W3LACUS11150

ColorLogic 160 color: LYCUS11030, LYCUS11050, LYCUS11100, LYCUS11150, W3LYCUS11030, W3LYCUS11050, W3LYCUS11100, W3LYCUS11150

CrystaLogic 320 white: LAWUS11030, LAWUS11050, LAWUS11100, LAWUS11150, W3LAWUS11030, W3LAWUS11050, W3LAWUS11100, W3LAWUS11150

CrystaLogic 160 white: LYWUS11030, LYWUS11050, LYWUS11100, LYWUS11150, W3LYWUS11030, W3LYWUS11050, W3LYWUS11100, W3LYWUS11150

If you are replacing a white CrystaLogic, you also gain full color, since our light is RGBW with True RGBW for accurate white.

How the Hayward light mounts, and why our Jandy light fits

The ColorLogic and CrystaLogic do not thread in. They slide into a 1.5 inch tube in the wall fitting, and a rubber expansion gasket on the body presses against the inside of that tube to seal it and hold it in place.

Many of the original wall fittings these lights sit in also have 1.5 inch threads, as you can see in the photos below. The Hayward light never uses them, but our Jandy WaterColors replacement does: its threads screw directly into that same 1.5 inch threaded fitting. That is what makes this swap possible.

Check your own fitting when the old light is out. If it has 1.5 inch threads, our Jandy style light will thread in after the modification below. If it is a smooth tube with no threads, text a photo of it to (239) 350-3110 before ordering and we will tell you what will work.

Before you start

  • Replace every light on the circuit. Our Jandy style light runs Jandy color programming, which you select as Z-Color in OmniLogic. The controller uses one light type per circuit, so all the lights on that circuit need to be our Jandy style replacements for the colors to work correctly. Do not mix them with original Hayward ColorLogic lights on the same circuit.
  • Turn off power at the breaker before touching the light or the junction box.
  • Tools: a sharp utility knife for the modification, plus whatever you normally use to pull and reconnect a pool light at the junction box.

Step 1: Remove the old Hayward light

With the breaker off, pull the old ColorLogic or CrystaLogic light out of the wall fitting and up onto the deck on its cable. Disconnect it at the junction box. This is the same process as any nicheless light swap, and the pool does not need to be drained. Our guide on replacing a pool light without draining the pool covers the general process.

Step 2: Trim the plastic ribs off the Jandy style light

Our Jandy style replacement has raised plastic ribs on its body, shown by the arrow in the photo below. Those ribs are what keep it from fitting into the 1.5 inch tube of the Hayward fitting. Slice them off with a sharp utility knife so the body is smooth in that area.

Be careful with the knife. Hold the light firmly on a stable surface and always cut away from your hand. Take thin slices rather than forcing one deep cut. Only remove the ribs: do not cut into the threads, the lens bezel, or the cable.

Step 3: Thread the light into the fitting

Feed the cable back through the conduit to the junction box. With the ribs gone, the body slides into the 1.5 inch tube and the light's threads engage the threaded fitting. Thread it in by hand until it is seated snugly against the fitting.

Step 4: Reconnect at the junction box

Connect the new light at the junction box the same way the original was connected. Cables come in 50, 100, and 150 foot lengths, and any extra cable can be coiled at the junction box.

Step 5: Set OmniLogic to Z-Color

In your Hayward OmniLogic controller, change the light type for that circuit to Z-Color. That tells the controller to send Jandy style color commands, which is what this light understands. Then turn the breaker back on and run through a few colors to confirm everything is working.

A note on color switching: once the circuit is set to Z-Color, you pick colors from the Z-Color list in OmniLogic, and the light steps through its Jandy color modes. The Hayward ColorLogic color and show names no longer apply to this light, so do not expect those exact shows. Because every light on the circuit is the same Jandy style replacement, they all change together and stay in sync. If you do not have automation, a standard on/off switch works too.

Once it is in, our Jandy style light is as bright as the original Hayward ColorLogic it replaced, so the pool looks the way it did before the old light failed.
