Jandy WaterColors LED Replacement: The Complete Upgrade Guide
If you've got a Jandy WaterColors pool or spa light that's dimming, flickering, or just plain dead, you're not alone. Jandy's original halogen bulb system was never designed to last as long as the fixture around it, and once you're pulling the light to fix it, most owners decide it's the right time to convert to LED for good.
How to identify a Jandy WaterColors light
Jandy WaterColors and HydroCool lights use a 1.5 inch nicheless fitting. There's no metal niche in the pool wall, just a threaded opening the light screws directly into. If your fixture threads into the wall rather than dropping into a recessed metal can, and the light has a color-changing lens, you very likely have a WaterColors or HydroCool unit. Part numbers to look for include JLU4C, JLUW, and JLUWW. For a full breakdown of what each part number means, see our JLU4C12W150, JLU4C12W100, and JLU4C12W50 replacement guide.
Why the original light keeps failing
The stock WaterColors light relies on halogen bulbs and lens gaskets that break down with heat and pool chemistry over a few seasons. Once the gasket seal starts to go, water finds its way in and the electronics follow shortly after. It's a repeatable failure pattern, not bad luck, which is why so many owners end up replacing the same light more than once.
The drop-in LED conversion
Our Jandy WaterColors & HydroCool LED replacement threads into the exact same 1.5 inch nicheless fitting and runs on the same 12VAC your current light uses, so there's no rewiring and no new equipment pad hardware. It's available in 12W (comparable to the original's brightness) or 30W High Output (about twice the brightness of the original, for large pools or single-light pools), with 50, 100, or 150 foot cable options to reach your junction box.
Inside, the light is built differently from the original: a perma-seal resin-filled housing instead of a hollow shell, a high-efficiency CREE LED chipset with liquid heat-transfer cooling to keep it running cool, and a rugged-jacket cable that pulls through tight conduit without binding. It runs all 14 of the standard Jandy-matched RGB color modes, so it's compatible with your existing Jandy AquaLink RS system or WaterColors LED controller. No reprogramming, no new remote.
No pool drain required
Like the original, this is a wet-niche-style swap: the light backs out of the fitting and comes up to the deck on its own cable length, so the whole job is typically a 30 minute deck-side swap. No draining, no diving, no calling in a crew.
Price and warranty
Pricing starts at $199 for the 12W version and $299 for the 30W High Output, both with a 2-year warranty against water intrusion and LED failure, plus free US shipping with 10 to 20 business day delivery. If you want extra peace of mind, a lifetime warranty upgrade is available at checkout.
